Preface > Sunitinib Malate is the drug being marketed as Sutent which was earlier popular as SU11248, is the small molecular receptor tyrosine kinase reducer which is used for the treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) and renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Sutent minimizes signaling through multiple tyrosine receptor including platelet-derived growth factor receptor and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor. Sutent is used to treat the advanced stage of kidney cancer when the medicine called Gleevec which is Imanitib Mesylate, is not capable of stopping cancer from growing further or in case just you cannot take it any more. Sutent has been granted authentic approval by the United States Foods and Drugs Administration only on 26th of January 2006.

Usage of Sutent > Sutent capsules are made in 12.5 mg, 25 mg and 50 mg strengths by the world’s largest pharmaceutical producers Pfizer Inc. Sutent is primarily used for patients with GIST who disease succession during earlier imatinib treatment or for them who did not bear imatinib. One of the clinical trials of its patient population, the time to succession was considerably longer in the SUETENT than the placebo arm.

Dose mechanism > Dose reduction and/or addition of antihypertensive or diuretic therapy may be needed; however, impulsive recovery has also been noticed. The patients may require to be monitored for symptoms of congestive heart failure and STUTENT may have to be stopped under the circumstances. Sutent capsule should be taken by mouth and it can be taken with or without food. When your doctor suggests Sutent for you, better try to avoid grapefruit juice for that day. The dosage of Sutent that you will receive depends on several factors including your general health or other health problems and the type of cancer or condition you have. It is your doctor who will determine the exact dosage and schedule for you. Sutent (generic name: sunitinib) is a targeted therapy and is a receptor protein-tyrosine kinase inhibitor. Sutent inhibits the actions of vascular endothelial growth factor and is an angiogenesis inhibitor. Sutent is used for the treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) and also for the treatment of advanced renal cell cancer.
